I’ve long been an enthusiast of Korean beer. It is severely bland, I won’t lie. Nevertheless, because of this very blandness it makes for excellent every-night type consumption. (In that way, it is remarkable similar to beer from Canadia).
If anyone is interested, Cass is my current favorite.
I’ll do my best to get some kind of real critique of Korean beer up sometime, but I’m so close to the matter, it’s hard to look away for even a moment and maintain objectivity.
It can be difficult to get what you want without words, but it is not impossible. Sometimes, however, when it comes to food, and given the overall deliciousness of the Korean variety, pointing blindly at an indecipherable menu and repeating ‘nae, nae’ yields excellent results.
To the left is pictured the Korean pork and potato soup kamjatang (???), which is, of course, the dish I polished moments ago (the picture is from the Wikipedia article, since I didn’t have my camera with me). It was quite spicy, and the restaurant had as much character as the soup.
Seriously though, communication here can be a total bitch.
Another candid shot from my immediate neighborhood. I’m not sure whether or not this little mart is part of a larger conglomerate, but numerous similar iterations can be found in many areas of Seoul - there are two nearly identical versions just blocks from my own house. I don’t do my personal bovine or otherwise shopping here, but, anticipating that the red fluorescents would make a pleasant night image, I went ahead and depressed the shutter. You can be the judge.
Infinitely numerous in Korea are sterile fishy restaurants sporting curbside aquariums full of all sorts of exotic swimmers available for consumption. This particular nook is just steps up the street from my expansive abode. I haven’t eaten here, but I have had my share of scaly Korean fare. Some of the fish look almost tropical! Good times.

At a tiny diner down the street I very much enjoyed this:

Cost about 4$. I couldn’t begin to tell you what all the little side dishes are, especially since it is possible to have each one only once - each visit brings unpredictable fare along with the main soup dish. Good stuff.
